Botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin is the name of the key ingredient used in Botox® anti-wrinkle injections. Botox® has been gaining popularity in recent years due to it's use by celebrities, but it's affordability has meant that everyone can now easily access it.

Botox® is an ideal choice for people who want a little help to prevent the natural signs of aging, specifically dynamic skin lines and wrinkles. These include the commonly treated forehead lines, frown lines, and the crow's feet lines around the eyes.

How does it work?

The active ingredient in Botox® acts to relax the underlying muscles of the face, to prevent the formation of lines and wrinkles when forming expressions. After your treatment, it usually takes 4-14 days for the full effect to occur, and this effect can last for up to 3-4 months.

Does this mean I won't be able to move my face?

Absolutely not! The administration and dosage of the Botox® injections are very specific to certain muscles which are responsible for the lines and wrinkles. The aim of Botox® is to have a more youthful, but natural appearance - I will work with you and discuss what you want to make sure that only you and I know you've had the treatment.

Does it hurt?

Botox® injections are relatively painless, and most of my patients will say they are in fact comfortable. The injection used has a very thin needle and should not be felt.

What happens afterwards?

Immediately after the treatment I will rediscuss all post-operative instructions with you and give you an instruction sheet to take home. Remember Botox® can take 4-14 days to fully work, and this is why I provide all my patients with a complimentary 14 day (2 week) review appointment. If we decide that you need a 'top-up' in certain areas, then I will also do this free of charge.

It's always best to have a full assessment and examination so that we can properly discuss your suitability for treatment with Botox®. Please feel free to contact me for more information or to book your free consultation!
